Literature Text

Dear love,

do show me how you feel

grasp every leaf you find

and let its gentle claws

bristle against your palm

caress it with a crush

like it never mattered anyway

please tell me all you'd like

every detail of my face

how it's meant to press yours

by cheek, by lip, by tongue

until I feel my own tears

the only badges of truth

each time.

It's true

I think about our nights

and every windmill day

how your touches sting

and the promise like a key

of sweet gleaming silver

tarnished just as the lock

I fell asleep last night

but for too short a spell

awakening swiftly, plainly,

my left hand rushed to cup

the blood of a reluctant scab

that may just never heal:

defiled.
